What I liked

I loved that IntraMicron provided a unique experience of seeing the product development sector of the chemical engineering industry. I was able to work on a myriad of projects that utilized my in-class understanding of chemical engineering concepts such as thermodynamics, transport phenomena and technical writing. I also appreciated the fact that everyone is willing to help you improve your skills and learn new things as you are consistently working with a team of experienced engineers and technicians.

What I wish was different

I wished that I had been able to see some of the different projects IntraMicron is known for in more detail. Depending on what semester your co-op rotation is, you could be focusing on one particular project the entire semester or seeing small portions of multiple projects in action. IntraMicron is continuously growing and expanding their research into applicable engineering technologies that will benefit different industries. Any experience with these projects is extremely beneficial in seeing how your coursework plays a vital role in developing the products that are seen throughout industry.

Advice

The best advice I can provide is learn all that you can while you are there. Some days will be very hands-on in which you will get to work with tools and see how the different pieces of equipment in your textbook actually operate. Other days, you could be doing more research and lab scale related tasks where you get to reinforce your understanding of concepts and problem solving skills. No matter what you may be doing, it is always beneficial to ask questions and ensure that you understand the science and engineering behind your projects. This will not only make you a better employee but also a better student.

What I liked

Being a Co-Op Engineer at IntraMicron helped me to better understand what chemical engineers do in the industry and the ability to work on a variety of different projects helped me to see what my future as a chemical engineer could potentially look like.

Advice

IntraMicron is a fast-paced work environment and keeping track of what’s going on will be really beneficial to being successful here. The people who work here are very knowledgeable, and will do whatever they can to help you succeed.

The opportunities that IntraMicron provides reach into multiple industry sectors, so there are numerous different projects available to work on. Also, it was so nice to feel as though my contributions were valuable and to work as a team.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions. There is so much valuable information to learn at IntraMicron, so be sure to make the most of the opportunity.

IntraMicron is the perfect environment for those who want to understand the details of the company research and products while also getting to work on a diverse range of projects everyday.

What I wish was different

Advice

Be flexible. With a diverse range of projects, comes a diverse range of tasks. Also, be open to instruction. There is always someone who will be willing to give you advice or help you with something if you have questions.

The opportunities I was provided by working with experienced engineers and the knowledge I was able to take with me that is not taught in the classroom.

Advice

There are multiple projects in various fields of chemical engineering happening at the same time, so be prepared to switch gears from different concepts like thermal conductivity to transport phenomena. Don't be afraid to ask questions if there's something you haven't learned in class yet or something that might be different than what you were taught in the classroom.
