Auburn University

Office Assistant

October 2018 • Auburn University, AL

What I liked

Basically everything. I like the work, I like the people I work with, I like my hours and my pay.

What I wish was different

Nothing really, it's about as perfect a job as I could imagine. I'd do it as a career if that was viable.

Groundskeeping Worker

June - August 2019 • Auburn, AL

What I liked

I enjoyed working with my hands and being outdoors.

What I wish was different

I wish there was more cooperation and communication up and down the leadership hierarchy.

Advice

I would recommend that anyone wanting to work at the arboretum be ready to work hard. It's manual labor in the hot Alabama sun, and that definitely takes its toll.

Kinesiology Student Leader

January 2020 • Auburn, AL

What I liked

Being able to volunteer within the Auburn's Kinesiology department has been amazing. It has not only helped me get to know other undergraduate students with common interests, but it has broadened my viewpoints on sports medicine all together. I enjoy volunteering because I am able to network with the amazing staff here at Auburn and be one of the first people to hear about all that's happening within this relatively new branch of healthcare. I plan to keep volunteering and eventually pursue a paying position somewhere in the field of exercise science and Athletic Training.

What I wish was different

Honestly, I remember being stressed during the application process because I really wanted this opportunity, however, when it came down to talking with the staff and answering those "tell me about yourself" questions, I was comfortable to relax and be myself. If the covid-19 outbreak never happened, my first semester as a volunteer would've looked a lot different, but I was impressed with how everyone, faculty and students, handled such an unforeseen challenge.

Advice

Go for it! If an opportunity arises that you're really interested in, apply! Worst case scenario is you don't get accepted. You could always apply again or find something else that aligns with what your passionate about.

Camp Counselor

June - July 2023 • Auburn, AL

What I liked

I highly enjoyed working with younger children! Each week was at a new location, so I got the opportunity to network and meet amazing people. My coworkers made the experience a summer to remember.

What I wish was different

Overall, this experience was truly enlightening, and it taught me many things! I know it’s a little tricky to get organized in the beginning, but that’s the only thing that I would change. This job was enjoyable!

Advice

One piece of advice for this job opportunity is to come to work with a positive attitude and be ready to learn from the children just as much as they learn from you!
