Software Development Co-Op

What I liked

What I wish was different

Advice

Don’t take things too seriously, you’re here to learn, not be the best. If you walk away everyday thinking “Man, I could have done better on that project”, you’ve got the wrong mindset. The better thought is actually a question: “What did I learn today?”

Co-op

May - August 2018 • Huntsville, AL

What I liked

Adtran has a very organized co-op program. Last summer was my 2nd work term so I had a better idea of what I was getting in to and was able to better prepare for the work my team was doing.

What I wish was different

One downside of a large co-op program is that it can be difficult for development teams to always have tasks suited for an entry level co-op. It is difficult to balance a task that isn't trivial but itsn't completely over your head (not that this issue is unique to adtran).

Advice

My main advice at adtran or any co-op is to enter with a learning and growth mindset. Ask as many questions as possible and don't expect yourself to be an expert right when you start.
