Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU)
Nanoxort LLC, a biomedical start-up located in Auburn, AL, is developing nanoparticle-based MRI contrast agents that will significantly enhance diagnosis of a variety of diseases (e.g. vascular, neurological, and cancer).
Nanoxort, an active National Science Foundation (NSF) SBIR Phase II grantee, is looking for up to two undergraduate students to participate in the Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program for summer of 2025.
We are looking for students meeting the following criteria:
- Pursuing a degree in chemical/biomedical engineering, chemistry, biology, or other related scientific field with at least a 3.0 gpa
- Previous lab experience (basic lab skills) is strongly desired
- Physical Requirements: The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds. Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, toxic chemicals, strong acids/bases, and potential carcinogenic substances. Proper PPE will be provided.
Performed experiments will be related to the ongoing SBIR Phase II awarded project. The selected student will receive training from the Principal Investigator and assist in synthesizing and characterizing nanoparticles, perform in vitro experiments, analyze data, and present to Nanoxort's co-founders. The student will learn how to operate lab apparatus and instruments, design and perform wet lab experiments, collect and tabulate data, keep accurate lab records, process the data, perform calculations, prepare charts and reports, and conduct statistical analysis.
The duration of the program ranges from 8-12 weeks. The student receives a stipend of up to $600/week.
