Research Assistant I
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Research Assistant I position is to demonstrate technical skills performing biological assays in cell cultures while following standard operating procedures for the laboratory.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Research Duties Carries out mammalian/insect/bacterial cell culture. Prepares reagents and restocks consumables. Performs molecular biology and biochemical experiments such as cloning, Western blots, protein purification, biochemical assays etc. Participates and helps other laboratory members to promote ongoing projects in the laboratory. Compiles and analyzes data. Presents organized data to manager for discussion. Uses Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Graphic and Statistical programs to create charts, posters, and reports as needed to reflect research results. Adheres to protocols for each project. Communicates with vendors to discuss products and purchase related issues. Helps organize laboratory meetings and seminars. Helps others in the implementation of new techniques as needed.
Equipment & Safety Maintains laboratory equipment in clean, working order. Keeps up-to-date contact information for service technicians for equipment maintenance. Organizes storage of laboratory equipment/consumables to best optimize space efficiency and overall laboratory safety.
Collaboration & Record Keeping Works in a collaborative and supportive manner with others. Focuses on the tasks and exhibits meticulous work habits. Records and evaluates data in accordance with routine data management in the laboratory. Keeps data well organized and easily accessible. Other duties as assigned.
