This exciting role as a R&D Engineering Co-Op/intern will Originate and develop designs for a secondary element, a minor functional system, or component parts of a structure or device.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Design a section of a major component, secondary elements of a major functional system or a system or a complete minor functional system working form overall design sketches and notes, design directives and preliminary design data.
  • Develop both 3D solid models and 2D production drawings from developed concepts.
  • Prepare rough proposal, revision, or production layouts, notes, sketches of design assignment from which final production drawings can be made.
  • Assist in the development of product and component evaluation test plans including drafting lab work orders.
  • Coordinate with laboratory personnel on test setup and data acquisition.
  • Perform fabrication of prototype parts using model-making equipment.
  • Analyze test data and document findings and formulate/recommend improvements.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot minor product and component design related issues and opportunities, documenting findings and performing corrective/improvement changes.
  • Render production drawings as assigned. Create Bill of Materials for assemblies and products.
  • Assist in the production start-up or new products.
  • Coordinate construction and acquisition of basic prototypes.

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Student in an approved undergraduate engineering program with a minimum grade point average of 2.5.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft word, Excel).
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Skills in and the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well with others in a team-oriented development environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written).
  • Must be self-motivated.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Electrical Engineering fields of study.
  • Working knowledge of solid modeling software.

SPECIAL EQUIPMENT NEEDED

  • Steel toe shoes (while working in the Product Development Lab)
