Biological Safety Lab Intern

The Biological Safety Laboratory (BSL) team located at our manufacturing site in Ave Maria, FL (AMIE) is responsible for performing laboratory testing and activities according to procedures to support monitoring programs and manufacturing activities. We are searching for an intern pursuing a Biology, Chemistry, or related science degree to support the BSL team. The individual will assist in maintaining the laboratory and in the performance of various tests (such as environmental monitoring sample collection and testing). A successful candidate will be detail-oriented in test execution/documentation and will deliver results / communicate issues in a timely and accurate manner. The Biological Safety Lab is a fast-paced environment; a successful candidate must be a fast learner and able to perform work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
This internship will run from May 2025 – August 2025. The ideal candidate will have the availability to work 40 hours per week at our Ave Maria, FL facility.
Main Objective:
Assist Arthrex Biological Safety Laboratory (BSL) scientists in the maintenance of the laboratory, performance tests and other laboratory duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Create reagents and materials for laboratory testing.
- Collection and testing of environmental samples.
- Assist in maintaining BSL systems and documentation.
- Assist in collecting and interpreting laboratory test data.
- Perform microbiology and/or chemistry tests under supervision and as per established procedures.
- Contribute to laboratory maintenance and cleaning.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Enrolled as a full-time junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Science (Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry or Bioengineering) or recent graduate required.
(Students who have recently graduated are only eligible to work as an intern/co-op up to six months from their graduation date.)
Knowledge and Skill Requirements/Specialized Courses and/or Training:
Microbiology sample collection experience preferred.
Machine, Tools, and/or Equipment Skills:
PC; Familiarity with Microsoft Outlook; PowerPoint; Word and Excel. Fax; Scanner.
