Environmental Intern
Primary Purpose
To experience Mountaire's culture first-hand and provide additional exposure of Mountaire's family-oriented work environment. Fulfill all designated duties within each specialized area of operation for the duration of the internship. This program is intended to provide learning opportunities by working hands-on with mentors and completing assigned projects. The main project involves gaining an in-depth understanding of the Millsboro and Selbyville Wastewater Plants to develop Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that will enhance operational efficiency. Additionally, time will be dedicated to learning the Water Treatment facility to assist in creating an Operation & Maintenance manual for the new plant.
Primary Project
- Travel to the Millsboro and Selbyville Wastewater Plants to collaborate with Managers and Supervisors, gaining a understanding of the processes.
- Develop comprehensive SOPs to ensure operators have clear guidance on performing each task within the wastewater plant.
- Learn the water treatment process and assist in creating an Operation & Maintenance manual for the Water Treatment facility.
- Review wastewater data for Delmarva, providing feedback, recommendations (if necessary), and summary reports for each facility or category.
Duties/Activities Required by Job
- Complete assigned project identified by department mentor
- Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities
- All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 5 - 7, 2025)
- All interns are required to complete a 10 minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 4-8th.
- All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10)
Education/Experience Requirements
- Must be currently enrolled and pursuing an Associate or Bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university.
- Environmental Major preferred
- Microsoft Suite experience - Excel, Word, PowerPoint
- Self-Starter and Self-Motivated willing to complete tasks without continuous oversight
- Open to learning new information, asking questions, getting additional details about both the department, and the Primary Project
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to data review
- Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to travel between sites
- Willing to work in a team environment with a positive attitude and participation, contribute to the team's conversations and planning, and provide feedback about related topics and areas of experience
