Business Process Summer Internship

Union Tank Car Company (“UTLX”) manufactures, leases, and repairs railcars in North America for railroads and industrial companies that ship by rail. POSITION SUMMARY:
The Business Process summer internship will consist of meaningful business projects and on-the-job mentorship from our Plant/Product Engineering and Quality Engineering teams over the duration of 10-11 weeks. These positions will concentrate on capital projects within our shop locations, as well as, advancing technical programs in our product and quality engineering groups.
The internship location is in the Chicago, IL area reporting 1 to 2 days in the downtown Chicago Office. The remainder of the week will be working remotely. Other shop locations would be Cleveland, TX or Houston, TX at our research facility.
SKILLS/SPECIFICATIONS:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organization and time management skills.
- Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
- Knowledge of basic mathematical operations and calculations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, innovative, and challenging environment.
- Ability to wear safety equipment such as, but not limited to safety shoes, safety glasses, hard hats, ear plugs, and respirators.
- Ability to see and hear the visual and audio safety warnings in the plant.
- Ability to bend, stoop and stretch to perform tasks.
- Some travel to shops may be required
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Junior, or Senior majoring in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- Leadership and project management skills demonstrated through participation in extra-curricular activities or previous work experience.
