Engineer / Developer for Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Applications - Auburn, AL

Job Description:

IS4S is seeking an Engineer or Developer in Auburn, AL to assist development of various DSP applications for Electronic Warfare (EW) sensors and processors. The person or persons filling this position will work with an existing team and be responsible for the development, implementation, and integration of various RF sensors running real time DSP applications on hardware. Typical activities include 

  • Designing and implementing C++ or FPGA digital signal processing applications
  • Development simulation environments and test benches to validate designs and implementations
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team to develop and improve RF sensor systems measurements and interfaces
  • Performance analysis and characterization of RF sensor systems
  • Anechoic and field testing of RF sensor systems
  • Creating analysis, assessment, and visualization tools for engineering purposes or to inform customers and end users
  • Software and hardware in the loop testing, live testing at local sites, and live testing at Government sites

Candidates should enjoy working a variety of interrelated tasks that may be different in nature. Though the position will be an addition to an existing team, candidates are expected to be self-driven problem solvers capable of operating independently on some tasks. Candidates must have strong analytical and communication skills. The position requires knowledge in multiple areas across signal processing, Xilinx FPGA development, Unix systems, networking, development, as well as regular customer interaction through meetings, briefings, and reporting. Some responsibilities necessary for execution may be physical in nature (e.g., packing and moving test equipment, installing sensors in vehicles, setting up communication network using masts, etc.). Both full and part-time applicants will be considered, subject to the requirements listed below. Candidate must be a US citizen and eligible for a DoD clearance.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or related technical field (for full-time applicants)
  • In pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, computer science, or related technical field (for part-time applicants)
  • Proficient in C++ and/or VHDL
  • Experience applying signal processing theory (FFTs, FIR filtering, adaptive filters) to real time SDR applications
  • Experience working with RF electronics, frontends, and antennas at UHF or higher
  • Knowledge of Unix systems, particularly at the command line
  • Ability to turn concepts into efficient algorithms
  • High MS Excel and Word proficiency
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability and motivation to work with minimal direction

 

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Xilinx RFSoC application design and development experience 
  • Ettus’s Research USRP/UHD design and development experience
  • Experience using or developing phased array applications at UHF or higher
  • Familiarity with Petalinux, RTOS’s, and bare metal integrations
  • Git version control experience
  • Electronic Warfare, communications, GPS/GNSS, or radar experience
