Building Science Summer Internship

Our Project Engineer Internship is a paid internship which assists our project operations department in the management of commercial construction projects which are assigned from the point of initial design through project completion in accordance with best practices, policies and procedures to successfully meet department and company goals.

Essential Functions

Project Financial Responsibilities

•        Assists Project Manager to determine resources needed – people, tools, equipment, materials and internal services for each project.
•        Assists with Preconstruction Services to prepare, review, and monitor information and reports related to all costs involved in assigned projects.
•        Establish/maintain project files and electronic files;
•        Follow up with clients, vendors and/or subcontractors to obtain status and/or necessary information and provide vital feedback;
•        Work with functional areas within the company to identify status of activity and/or expedite activity to assist Project Managers in meeting client expectations;
•        Perform fundamental paperwork duties as may be required to meet requirements of an order;
•        Manage projects assigned by Manager
•        Work with the Pre-construction department to develop and nurture repeat and new clients;
•        Develop necessary internal and external relationships to successfully manage projects to exceed customer expectations;
•        Attend internal/external training opportunities;
•        Travel to jobsites to inspect work and participate in various meetings such as Trade Coordination meetings, Company Presentations and OAC meetings as required;
•        Assist Project Managers in other project management activities including but not limited to:
o  RFI’s
o  Submittals
o  Communication;
o  Vendor Relations;
o  Scheduling;
o  Change Orders;
o  Accounting;
o  Jobsite Meetings
•        All employees are responsible for complying with company procedures and safety requirements including reviewing work area daily for potential safety and health hazards, reporting potential hazards to their supervisors as well as reporting any work related injuries or illnesses to their supervisors as well.

Job Requirements

•        Currently enrolled in an accredited College or University in the study of Construction Management, Building Science, Engineering, or related field.
•        Demonstrates leadership skills with ability and willingness to face challenges, solve problems, and motivate others.
•        Ability to manage multiple activities/projects, meet multiple deadlines and network with staff, management and clients.
•        Demonstrates proficiency using a personal computer (PC) and company communication tools, such as email, internet, and Microsoft products (e.g., Word, Excel, Office, Outlook).
•        Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•        Detail oriented with excellent analytical skills.

Working Conditions:

Normal professional office setting and some on-site field work. Evening and/or weekend work. Light Travel required. (Less than 10%)

Typical Physical Needs:

Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. May need to climb stairs, ladders and/or scaffolding and lift up to 30 lbs.
