Intern - Electrical Engineer
INTERN POSITION SUMMARY:
The Summer Internship Program offers a full-time position during the summer to rising junior and senior students, providing an environment of growth and continued development, as well as a future opportunity for consideration of full-time hire upon graduation.
Hire start date: mid-May 2023
End date: August 2023
DESCRIPTION OF POSSIBLE RESPONSIBILITIES BASED ON TEAM PLACEMENT:
• Perform Engineering duties and be involved with real-time computer control and monitoring of steel mill processes, based on discipline-specific assignments; which may include:
• Recommending and/or performing predictive, preventative and emergency maintenance of equipment
• Researching, designing, evaluating, installing, modernizing, re-designing, operating, maintaining and repairing machinery and equipment
• Resolving equipment malfunctions, including those requiring scheduled shutdowns or breakdown action
• Planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance/engineering projects
• Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
• Analyzing current operating performance and standard operating procedures and making recommendations for improvement
• Analyzing product failure data and laboratory test results in order to determine causes of problems and develop solutions
• Conducting tests on raw materials or finished products in order to ensure their quality
• Evaluating technical specifications and economic factors relating to process or product design objectives
• Software development and system support; installation of new computer control systems as well as computer control modernization projects
• Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system
• Close coordination with a production department
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Electrical Engineering or related field; minimum cumulative GPA 2.5
- Must be actively pursuing degree
