Structural Field Engineer

We are currently seeking applicants for a Structural Field Engineer position in our Nashville office.

Qualifications and Skills

The applicant is required to have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam. It is preferred that the applicant have a minimum of 2 years’ experience. The applicant should be highly motivated with a sound technical background and excellent communication skills.

Structural Design Group provides consulting structural engineering design and construction administration services for healthcare, educational, hospitality, multi-family, commercial, institutional, and industrial facilities located throughout the United States and overseas. SDG is one of the largest structural engineering firms in Tennessee designing large, complex projects with construction values in excess of $500 million and employing over 40 engineers, structural modelers, and administrative personnel, with an average of 14 years’ experience each.

Responsibilities and Duties

As a Structural Field Engineer at SDG, you will be the structural engineer-of-record representative during the construction phase of projects once the initial design is completed.

Duties in the office include:
·        Review of contractor-furnished shop drawings,
·        Providing responses to contractor-driven RFI’s,
·        Soliciting proposals for testing/inspection services and providing recommendations to Owners.

Duties in the field include:
·        Conducting pre-construction meetings with contractors, architects, and testing/inspection agencies to review specific notes/requirements for different construction types involved with the project (concrete, structural steel, masonry),
·        Construction jobsite observations where different aspects of construction are reviewed to ensure general conformance with the contract documents,
·        Providing reconnaissance of existing structures for the structural design engineer.

Travel includes 1 to 2 nights per week on average.

Schedule:
  • Travel 1 to 2 nights per week on average
  • Monday to Friday in office
  • Flexible schedule: Preferred work hours are Monday – Thursday, 7:30 am – 5:00 pm, and Friday, 7:30 am – 2:30 pm.
