Pilot Plant Process Engineer

The Pilot Plant Process Engineer provides work direction to the Feedstock Evaluation Unit (FEU). The ideal candidate will have experience with polymers, high-pressure operations, or supercritical fluids. They troubleshoot problems with the FEU Supervisor to maintain efficient use of this unit and ensure unit utilization is aligned with business goals. This role will report to the Vice President of Technology.
 
Location: Ironton, OH

Essential Responsibilities & Duties
·       Adapts run plans and set points to ensure work goals are met
·       Troubleshoots day-to-day problems and provides technical guidance to the FEU operations team
·       Identifies potential process improvements and leads efforts to improve the overall operation
·       Analyzes FEU data and maintains a system for data retention
·       Leads process improvement projects including design and management of change (MOC)
·       Facilitates drawing updates, acquisition of equipment quotes, and completion of design calculations to support modification projects
·       Drives operational excellence and ensures safe operating practices are executed

Basic Qualifications (Required)
·       Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering
·       Ability to interpret and modify process and instrumentation diagrams (PIDs)
·       Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
·       Excellent communication skills
·       Ability to prioritize and shift gears in a fast paced and challenging environment.
·       Ability to comprehend and accurately interpret safety ad training materials.
·       Willingness and ability to provide 24/7 on-call support as needed.
·       An understanding of other skilled trades such as welding, plumbing and electrical.
·       Computer literacy education, including office programs and spreadsheet applications.
·       Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and employees.
·       While performing the duties of this job, the employee has the potential to be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
·       The employee is exposed to a variety of extreme weather conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
·       Must be able to wear appropriate PPE including but not limited to safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection, respirators, SCBA, etc.
·       The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing. sometimes for long periods.
·       Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
·       This job requires the use of machines and hand tools, and requires occasional heavy lifting of parts, products, bags, etc.
·       Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and pre-employment physical.

Preferred Qualifications
·       Masters Degree or higher in Chemical Engineering
·       1-5 years of combined experience in the manufacturing and chemical industry
·       Pilot plant design or operational experience
·       Experience with polymer production or blending
·       Experience with supercritical fluids
·       Experience with liquid-liquid extraction, settling, filtration, or fixed bed adsorption.
·       People leadership experience.
·       OSHA/PSM experience.
·       Experience with Emerson control systems.
·       Experience in startup companies.
