Civil Design Engineer

Ideal Candidate:
  • Pursuing Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (May 2023 Grad)
  • Interested in pursuing Professional Engineering License OR if a recent graduate, Engineer-In-Training Certification.
  • Training and/or experience with personal computer and computer aided designs.

As a Design Engineer, you will develop new and alternate plant and equipment designs and communicate these designs to our internal customers via working drawings and other documents. You will be responsible for gathering all necessary information for the design from the internal customer and preparing specifications and purchase equipment, which is part of the design. As a Design Engineer, you will advise and instruct the operating department in the proper use of designed/purchased equipment and help with any maintenance/startup procedures unique to the design.

Job Duties:
  • Helps review and implement local, state and federal environmental regulations.
  • Collects and compiles data for submission of permit applications for regulated air, water, solid, and hazardous waste sources.
  • Helps develop and implement cost effective chemical/physical treatment processes for air, water, solid and hazardous waste sources.
  • Helps provide a continually improving system in which the Co-op student(s) can do the work necessary in the environmental group.
  • Helps identify and initiate disposal of hazardous waste and materials.
  • Helps coordinate regulatory inspections.
  • Helps generate data for mandatory environmental reports.
  • Conducts internal environmental audits to determine AMERICAN's level of compliance with current or proposed regulations and environmental reports.
