Field Engineer Spring 2023 Internship / Co-Op - Heavy Civil - Dallas, TX

Overview
The Intern will provide support to the Project Engineer and the Project Superintendent. The support goals include production tracking, operational planning, communicating, organizing, implementing, and tracking project data.


Internship Goals
  1. Gain understanding of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) ad Hazard Safety Observations (HSO)
  2. Know and apply necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PEE) for jobsite activities
  3. Observe and prevent safety incidents
  4. Conduct jobsite audits
  5. Learn how to interpret plans and set layouts
  6. Understand how to survey for quantities
  7. Gain knowledge in conversions and accurate surveying practice
  8. Assess man-hours time and materials needed for production
  9. Communicate and delegate work plans to field crews
  10. Draft and implement jobsite planning
  11. Understand the proper procedures to complete different aspects of a project
  12. Interpret plans and calculate actual quantities needed
  13. Understand contractual implications
  14. Identify jobsite tools, the safety implications of various tools, and appropriate usage of tools

Qualifications
  1. Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Construction Science/Management, or related 4-year degree program
  2. Ability to communicate in English via verbal and written communications
  3. Moderate to high level of computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook
  4. Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items and work with the fingers
  5. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Full understanding of Construction Math concepts
  6. Ability to perform moderate to high level of physical activity in field-based construction environment
