Engineering Intern - Baby Business Unit

Position Title: Engineering Intern, Baby Business Unit (Graco, Nuk, Car Seats, Strollers, Home, Sleep, Quality)
Start/End Date: May 15 – August 4, 2023
Location: Atlanta, GA
**Requires 40 hours per week and is paid

Responsibilities:
This position will identify opportunities for development of new products and design improvements for existing products. The role will insure the quality, cost, and on time delivery of new products to the market. Responsibilities include working with the development team to establish product plans based on market trends, and vendor development of new products and processes. Duties could include competitive benchmarking, product costing, 3D product design, patent research and discovery, product performance testing, prototyping, test method development, and preliminary cost analyses for product application of new technologies.

Specific responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
  • Assist in ensuring new products meet specifications (drawings, wire diagrams, performance and quality), cost and timing objectives.
  • Assist in development of product designs from design staff concepts using computer-aided design (Creo).
  • Assist evaluation and optimization of product designs for mechanical function, manufacturability, packaging, material handling, software and hardware performance.
  • Assist generation of finalized engineering product drawings with critical dimensions, performance specifications, surface coatings, finishes and quality specifications (standards and test methods/procedures).
  • Assist development and evaluation of finite element models for flow and structural analysis.
  • Assist development and evaluation of cost for new and modified product designs from design through production launch to maximize product value and competitiveness.
  • Assist in providing technical support in solving product quality problems with existing products.
  • Work on special projects as assigned such as evaluating competitive product, new processes and technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Working towards a B.S. degree in either Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science or Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Software Engineering, Packaging Engineering or Chemistry.
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Related work or co-op/internship experience is a plus and evidence of creativity and innovation. Engineering project experience is also a plus, such as mini-Baja, SAE, Robotics etc.
  • Knowledge of materials (plastics, metal, and/or wood) processing and various manufacturing technologies (molding, stamping, welding, cutting, etc) preferred but not required.
  • CAD modeling experience, programming, statistics experiences, FEA Analysis, and working knowledge of computer aided design systems are preferred but not required.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously while taking initiative on projects, driving them to timely completion.
  • A self-starter with proven critical thinking and problem solving skills – identify problems, potential problems, and develop solutions for smooth work flow.
  • Planning/Organization skills – sets priorities and make decisions for effective workload processing.
  • Demonstrated experience of working in a cross-functional project team environment and independently.
  • Consumer Products industry experience is preferred.
