Seasonal Wildlife Interpreter Pre-professional - Willowbrook

The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County provides opportunities for people to connect with nature.
The District's mission is, "to acquire and hold lands containing forests, prairies, wetlands and associated plant communities or lands capable of being restored to such natural conditions for the purpose of protecting and preserving the flora, fauna and scenic beauty for the education, pleasure and recreation of it's citizens.
Job purpose
This position provides the District's public education by researching, developing, evaluating, promoting, and presenting natural resource or cultural programs at District facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Set-up displays for educational programming
  • Present educational programs to site visitors
  • Assist staff with running summer camps
  • Assist staff with facility's and District-wide events
  • Assist public with questions about nature and various environmental issues
  • General clerical duties (i.e.: data entry)
  • Assist with program design and implementation
  • Ability to learn curriculum rapidly
  • Perform other duties as required
Education and Experience Required
Additional Information: Must be 18 years of age or older at time of hire; may work in close contact with live animals. Wear hard-soled closed-toe shoes.
Hours: June - August; 40 hours a week; (hours vary and will include weekends and holidays as scheduled).
Related Experience: Prior experience working with preschool-high school children; working as a camp counselor, customer service background; knowledge of local natural history.
Special training or other license, certification, etc.: Coursework in Biology, Education, Ecology, History, Conservation, or related field or equivalent combination of training and experience; working knowledge of Microsoft Office and navigating the internet; CPR/1st Aid; must have a valid Driver's License.
Skills In: Developing, preparing and delivering programs designed to educate the public; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; interacting with the public in a courteous and professional manner.
