Job Description
EBAD is seeking a Product Engineer with experience working in an electromechanical manufacturing environment, specifically, actuators designed for spacecraft support and to release loads. Employee will be responsible for evaluating designs for manufacturability and leading development of new products into production. Candidate will have key areas of expertise in analyzing user requirements, mechanical design, tool design, and manufacturing cell layout.
Responsibilities:
This position supports and reports directly to the Product Engineering Lead.  The Product Engineer (PE) is the technical lead on internal and external projects and is responsible for all technical and schedule aspects of the project/product throughout the production life cycle. Primary duties include:

  • Create 3D conceptual models to meet customer design requirements
  • Perform design trade studies and hand calculations
  • Perform tolerance studies to ensure design fidelity
  • Interact with customers on design, interface and functional details
  • Development and maintenance of the technical data package, build package (including manufacturing instructions, routings, process specifications and tooling) as well as product testing requirements and methods.
  • Provide continuity during the transition from the proposal phase to the production phase by acting as the main technical liaison between the customer and EBAD.
  • Solving manufacturing problems, investigating process failures and implementing corrective actions
  • Coordination with other departments to ensure the production viability of new designs, creation of the required documentation, and internal and customer approval for this documentation.
  • Interface with production personnel including operators, quality inspectors, and shop floor supervisors.
  • Implementation of Lean methodologies including standard work, point of use tooling, material presentation and process improvements.
  • Development of automated test fixtures and assembly tools
  • Develop layouts of manufacturing cell design including tooling, machinery and equipment.
  • Responsible for Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
  • Technical compliance and risk assessment
Requirements:
The successful candidate must have a BS/MS in an engineering discipline, preferably mechanical engineering or manufacturing engineering and a minimum 5 years of project, manufacturing or related engineering experience in multi-part mechanisms and mechanical/electromechanical assemblies. Additionally, it is desired that the candidate has experience in the following area:

  • Design and application of electromechanical actuators
  • Knowledge of space vehicle mechanisms and systems
  • Strong SolidWorks experience is required. Must be capable of creating 3-D parts, assembly models, drawings and complete GD&T.
  • Experienced in combining electromechanical components, electronics and computer control for automated test and process control
  • Experience with the design of tooling and fixtures for environmental testing of space components
  • Design for Manufacturing methods and techniques
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems.
  • Established project management skills with the ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
  • Experienced in low volume high mix, developmental level procurement in a collaborative, fast paced, team environment.
  • Experience in working with Aerospace products and processes.
  • Understanding of Continuous Improvement, Lean Manufacturing practices and in-depth understanding ERP/MRP planning systems.
