HandsOn VISTA - City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services

Join the City of Phoenix Neighborhood Services team to recruit high school students to make an impact in their own community! In this role you will help design a pilot program that aims to create working relationships with all 23 schools within Phoenix Union, getting their students involved in community projects. The Neighborhood Services team works to preserve, enhance and engage phoenix neighborhoods and in this role, you will have the opportunity to conduct research, develop programing materials, pitch ideas, and develop volunteer projects. You’ll gain valuable experience of how a city government operates and build professional connections. The successful applicant should have strong communication and organization skills. Helpful but not required: Spanish speaking, knowledge of the local school system, experience with youth volunteerism - even as a participant.

This is a National Service position as a part of AmeriCorps VISTA program. Members who move over 50 miles qualify for a relocation allowance as well as a settling in allowance. All of our VISTA's receive a modest taxable living allowance of about $1,300/month (before taxes), federal loans qualify for forbearance. After the completion of one's year of service, they also qualify for an educational award valued at about $6,500, which can be used towards federal loans, or further education.
