Position Overview
Under general direction, performs general medical examinations, provides diagnostic and treatment services; provides facility wide comprehensive medical care, treatment and diagnosis of disorders relating to their internal medicine specialty to medical staff; verifies treatment of individuals meets standards of care; evaluates assigned cases at Intake; makes daily rounds evaluating individuals’ progress, treatment and effectiveness of prescribed medications; serves as an intermediary and advocate for individuals during community-based consultations, treatment and outpatient care. Serves as Physician on call. Ensures for compliance with facility, Department, State, Federal and Public Health standards, rules, policies, procedures and regulations relating to the provision of medical services.

Job Responsibilities
1. Performs general medical examinations, provides diagnostic and treatment services.
2. Makes daily rounds evaluating individuals’ progress, treatment and effectiveness of prescribed medications.
3. Serves as an intermediary and advocate for individuals during community-based consultations, treatment and outpatient care. Refers individuals to community-based providers for specialized consultation, treatment and inpatient care.
4. Serves as Physician on call.
5. Provides consultation in specialty area of Internal Medicine to other medical and direct care staff.
6. Serves as an active member of assigned committees to provide expertise in the areas of treatment and development.
7. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires an Illinois license to practice medicine and American Board Certification in Internal Medicine.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 
• Requires ability to effectively communicate in both written and verbal formats.

Conditions Employment 
1. Requires the ability to meet all agency vaccine/health-related Policies and guidance.
2. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
3. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
