Scientist/Project Manager (Full-Time)

The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill a full-time position as a Scientist/Project Manager for the development and characterization of anti-microbial peptides for commercialization (anticipated start date, as soon as possible).

Responsibilities:
  • Effectively managing project deliverables/timelines by interfacing and coordinating with a broad group of technical teams, collaborators and other resources to successfully achieve project goals
  • Supporting the development and maintenance of a peptide database, which includes bioinformatics, structural biology and artificial intelligence, modes of action studies and biochemical characterization
  • Trouble-shooting instrumentation, routine lab maintenance, training scientific staff and chemical/biochemical laboratory tasks are required
  • Other duties as assigned

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Extensive laboratory experience and excellent organization, recordkeeping and communication skills
  • Able to organize, multitask time efficiently and work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and interactive research environment
  • Effective writing and communication skills
  • Outstanding collaborative and leadership abilities, able to work independently and show initiative and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to train and manage other laboratory personnel, manage multiple tasks, maintain databases and contribute substantially to publications, grants and patents
  • Hands-on experience with the expression and purification of recombinant proteins and peptides and biochemical characterization
  • Demonstrated experience using advanced imaging techniques such as confocal microscopy
  • Experience with Bioinformatics tool, Python and machine learning
  • Ability to analyze, troubleshoot and optimize laboratory protocols and instrumentation
  • Prior experience working with fungal pathogens and cell biology to characterize their responses to anti-microbial peptides

Qualifications:
PhD in Biology, Plant Science, Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related Life Science field with at least 5 years subsequent laboratory experience
