Scientist (Full Time) - Structural Biology
The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill a full-time position as a Staff Scientist, Structural Biology for the development and characterization of anti-microbial peptides for commercialization (anticipated start date - as soon as possible).
Responsibilities:
- Applying bioinformatics, AI tools for peptide structural predictions, evolutionary and rational design and data science approaches to create improved anti-microbial peptides for crop protection
- Coordinating efforts with a broad team of scientists, collaborators and other resources to successfully achieve project goals
- Supporting the development of an artificial intelligence platform that integrates bioinformatics, structural, mode-of-action, cytotoxicity and biochemical analysis for the creation of novel in silico anti-microbial peptides
- Participation in data interpretation and creation of manuscripts for publication and patents
- Other duties as assigned
Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Able to organize, multitask time efficiently and work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary and interactive research environment
- Effective writing and communication skills, meticulous record keeping
- Demonstrated experience is required with some of the following techniques, but applicants with related skill sets are encouraged to apply:
- Protein crystallography or cryo-electron microscopy
- Protein expression and purification, Molecular and cell biology
- Biochemical and/or cell-based assay development
- Computational predictive protein modeling (e.g. RoseTTAFold or AlphaFold2) and data analytics

Qualifications:
Ph.D. and post-doctoral experience with a strong background in structural biology, chemical biology, biochemistry, cell biology, chemistry or related field with a keen interest in discovery research
