Zoonosis Public Health and Prevention Specialist I

Under the leadership of the Communicable Disease Manager and the supervision of the Regional Zoonosis Veterinarian, performs professional entry-level public health duties for the Zoonosis Control program. Provides technical consultation to local health departments, human and animal health care professionals, government officials, community action groups, internal customers, and the public on the treatment, prevention and control of zoonotic diseases, rabies risk assessment, and animal control. Serves as a public health resource in increasing public and professional awareness of zoonotic public health issues. Investigates human and animal zoonotic disease incidents, to include obtaining lab/disease reports, reviewing medical records, interviewing patients, and monitoring for case resolution. Collects data and measures program effectiveness through databases and spreadsheets to provide quality assurance. Prepares maps, charts, graphs and tables. Maintains program equipment and supplies. Develops educational presentations and curriculums for general public. Writes or updates standard operating procedures for program-specific activities, as directed. Supports the regional veterinarian in organizing, tracking and evaluation Animal Control Officer (ACO) training courses. Maintains rabies biologicals. Maintains shelter inspection data. Works under close supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgement. During public health emergencies, including pandemic responses such as COVID-19, all PHR 8 employees are expected to provide related public health or emergency response services. This may include response, recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activities. This participation may require a change in shift, location and/or supervisor.  

Salary Group: B14
Salary Range: $2,595.33 - $4,094.50/mo
