Managing Editor

The Times-Journal in Fort Payne, Alabama is looking for its next Managing Editor. The position involves running the newsroom and ensuring the smooth flow of content from conception to publishing on all platforms. We are looking for someone who is organized, detail-oriented and eager to produce award-winning content while enjoying the high quality of life in our beautiful and historic community. We publish twice a week, produce a monthly magazine called DeKalb Living and create special issues throughout the year. Required skills include page layout using Adobe InDesign, an ability to work quickly under deadline pressure and give assignments to two reporters.

We are based in northeast Alabama, just minutes away from the Georgia and Tennessee state lines. Once a manufacturing hub -- deemed the "Sock Capital of the World" just a few years ago -- our economy is now largely driven by tourism. Our coverage area includes the popular mountain getaway of Mentone, which is the place they put on the brochures of Alabama because of all the pretty waterfalls. But what really put us on the map was music, performed by some hometown boys in Alabama, the most successful band in country music history. More recently, we were thrilled to watch our own Evan McPherson kicking the Cincinnati Bengals into the Super Bowl.

Our newspaper has published since 1878. Today, we are adapting our legacy media products to take advantage of the exciting opportunities of the digital age.
