Muskegon Heights Early Childhood Center Director III

POSITION: Muskegon Heights Center Director III, Early Childhood
The Center Director manages the pre-school programs (Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program) in assigned building(s). Responsibilities
include management of assigned pre-school classrooms, center staff supervision, grant management, and child care license administration. The
Director ensures compliance with all relevant program standards and high-quality early childhood development services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Management of center staff.
2. Works effectively as a member of the Early Childhood Center team to educate children, engage families, enhance school readiness, and
provide for a safe, secure and nurturing environment.
3. Ensures compliance with myriad of program regulations for Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program, including coordinating an
ongoing monitoring system.
4. Compliance with State of Michigan child care license requirements.
5. Oversight of center enrollment & education of children.
6. Management of annual center budget.
7. Daily building management.
8. Liaison with community service agencies serving center’s parents and children.
9. Effective working relationship with center’s parents and children.
10. Prepares and coordinates all necessary reports, files, forms and records.
11. Makes recommendations to Director regarding ongoing program improvement.
12. Upholds the Head Start Code of Conduct.
13. Performs such other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned.

1. Possession of an Associates degree in early childhood development or related field and at least 10 years of successful work experience in the
early childhood - OR - possession of a Bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education or a related field and at least five years successful
experience working in early childhood program(s). To meet minimum state licensing Program Director requirement, candidate must have a
minimum of 18 credits in ECE.
2. Coursework in child care administration is preferred.
3. Leadership skills to coordinate a diverse set of service providers and local partner school districts and agencies to best serve young children
and families. The ability to work and communicate effectively with staff, agency representatives, administrators, parents, and young children.
4. Knowledge of Head Start and Great Start Readiness Program regulations. Experience preferred in having past managerial experience of such
program(s).
5. Knowledge of and working relationship with local community service agencies.
6. No physical or mental restrictions that would, with reasonable accommodation, prevent performance of the essential job functions and
responsibilities.
7. Successful pre-employment physical exam including tuberculosis screening and criminal background records check.

TERMS: This position is 260 days, 8 hours per day with full family benefits. Dental and vision are at no cost to the employee. Retirement is
through the Office of Retirement Services through the State of Michigan. Paid sick, vacation, personal, and holidays.
SALARY RANGE: $31.08 per hour
