Maine Revenue Services has (1) one current opening in Augusta, Maine.  The individual must work in the Augusta, Maine office of Maine Revenue Services.
 
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Maine Revenue Services seeks a qualified individual to fill a Tax Section Manager vacancy within the Income/Estate Tax Division to provide direct assistance to the Division Director and Deputy Director. The Division administers individual income, fiduciary income, corporate income, financial institutions franchise, estate, and insurance premiums taxes; income tax withholding programs; and certain tax benefit programs, such as income tax credit and reimbursement programs. See below for a more detailed list of typical duties.
 
TYPICAL DUTIES (all with respect to tax programs administered by the Income/Estate Tax Division):
  • Provide direct assistance to the Division Director and Deputy Director in legal and technical support to ensure the proper administration of all taxes administered by the division
  • Perform analysis of legislative proposals
  • Perform complex federal and state tax research and analysis
  • Implement statutory and regulatory provisions by ensuring that forms, instructions, and guidance material comply with federal and state tax law
  • Draft complex tax material, such as legislation, rules, guidance, and instructions
  • Provide tax information and guidance to taxpayers and professionals through drafting press releases, tax articles, guidance documents, and public presentation materials
  • Respond to inquiries from taxpayers and tax professions, including reconsideration requests and requests for advisory rulings
  • Compile and analyze statistical information to identify federal and state tax activity trends
  • Interview, train, supervise, and evaluate technical and professional staff
  • Establish and maintain procedures that govern the activities of a unit
  • Implement, administer, and comply with human resource laws, policies, procedures, and practices, including AA/EEO recruitment, employment, position classification, performance appraisals, training, discipline, contract administration, communication systems, and employee safety to ensure fair and equal treatment of subordinate personnel.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree and two and one-half (2½) years professional experience in auditing, accounting, or tax administration. Equivalent related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.
