Environmental Specialist 1 - Job ID 55938

Job Summary
This position exists to (1) support the Brownfield and Superfund Programs with the processing and review of applications and supporting environmental documents submitted through the MPCA’s e-services portal, for participation as a voluntary party (Brownfield Program) or cooperative responsible party (Superfund Program); (2) support all Remediation Division programs with the tracking and management of institutional controls that have been placed on contaminated property; and (3) assist the Brownfield Program with its transition to electronic data storage (EQuIS) for environmental data collected at brownfield sites.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, Geology, Biology, Chemistry, or related field
OR
Two (2) years of professional-level environmental protection experience.
In addition:
Demonstrated strong technical writing skills.
Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word and exposure to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint.
Ability to gain a complete understanding of the environmental regulatory process and procedures.
Excellent communication and human relations skills to interact effectively with stakeholders and team members.
Problem-solving skills to successfully resolve technical matters and bring projects to conclusion.

Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated understanding of local government organizations.
Demonstrated knowledge of state waste management policies, rules and regulations.
Ability to consult effectively with local officials and maintain productivity in controversial situations.

Physical Requirements
Ability to use a computer and perform keyboard functions for multiple hours per day.

Additional Requirements
Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver’s license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
