That is, candidates can be hired at any of these levels based on their academic and work experience and be noncompetitively promoted up to GS-12 upon successful performance at preceding levels. The SERFC is a regional field office of the National Weather Service focused in the fields of hydrology and hydrometeorology. We are tasked with the important mission of providing life-saving and commerce-enhancing data, forecasts, and decision support services to a wide range of partners. We work closely with federal partners such as the US Army Corps of Engineers and US Geological Survey as well as state and local government partners from emergency management offices, to water management districts, to shellfish sanitation management agencies. We routinely engage academic institutions in an effort to bridge research to operations. The work is challenging and complicated, but mission-oriented and rewarding.
