Evidence Synthesis and Applied Health Sciences Librarian
The Albert R. Mann Library Research and Scholarly Engagement Department at Cornell University is seeking an Evidence Synthesis and Applied Health Sciences Librarian.
We are looking for someone who will help students and scholars become more confident users of evidence synthesis methods and protocols - particularly associated with the applied health science disciplines. The successful candidate provides innovative information services primarily for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Human Ecology communities on systematic reviews and related evidence synthesis methodologies, including instruction, resource and guideline development, consultations, and co-authorship. They also represent Cornell University Library’s cutting edge Evidence Synthesis Service on the national and international stage through various types of professional engagements. This position allows for many growth opportunities related to evidence synthesis and supports academic interests that advance this burgeoning field of librarianship, including but not limited to artificial intelligence or machine learning automation, mentorship or program development for librarians and researchers in resource-limited settings, or open science applications. The candidate will be able to actively contribute to Cochrane systematic reviews and the World Health Organization/Cochrane/Cornell University Summer Institute for Systematic Reviews in Nutrition for Global Policy Making as part of Cornell’s affiliate Cochrane Center for Nutrition and PAHO/World Health Organization Collaborating Centre on Nutrition Research for Health, the only such organizations in North America focused on nutrition.
The Evidence Synthesis and Applied Health Sciences Librarian also delivers public services to the Cornell and New York State community including reference, consulting, and instruction. At Mann Library “we actively support the needs of all who seek knowledge and foster the open exchange of diverse ideas to improve the lives of people everywhere.” As a member of the Disciplinary Research Support Service Science Team, the successful candidate provides research consultations to students, staff, and faculty on comprehensive and strategic information discovery, retrieval, organization, and dissemination. This type of work is great for someone who loves to learn new things, likes to dig for resources that support interdisciplinary, complex patron-driven research questions, and really enjoys interacting with people and helping them find what they need. As a member of the Research Services & Scholarly Engagement department, this librarian will develop and deliver graduate instruction and programming to build research skills through workshops, courses, and potential international trainings.

While the person in this position will be a key member of two teams -- the Evidence Synthesis Service and the Disciplinary Research Support Service -- they will also collaborate across library departments and campus to solve problems, learn new skills, and support others’ work. What we’re looking for more specifically:
- A demonstrated ability or training to utilize evidence synthesis and systematic review methodologies.
- An educational, experiential, or research background in agriculture, biological, health sciences, or related field. We are actively looking for diversity of background and experience, so please tell us how your experience relates to this requirement.
- A graduate degree in Library or Information Science OR in a field related to the populations we support, such as (but not limited to) the health sciences.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, especially when it comes to discussing and teaching complex ideas with various audiences. You have an ability to meet interdisciplinary students and faculty wherever they are in their learning process, and a desire to help them grow. Excellent written communication skills: please tell us how your experience could be applied to tasks such as publishing in the sciences, documenting evidence synthesis methodology, and developing education resources.
- An ability to work in a team environment and to collaborate effectively. You have experience in building connection and community. For example, this could be in education, mentoring, consulting, outreach, or another form of engagement.
- A true commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion and belonging in the organization where you work and in the communities that you reach. For example, this could be through an interest in or knowledge of ways that minoritized groups have been marginalized in education, the science disciplines, publishing and scholarly communication environments and ideas about how to contribute to a more just and equitable environment to support the learning and voices of all scholars.
Limited Timeframe Remote: This position is located in Ithaca, New York. It is expected that you will be working on-site at Mann Library, but there are some options for flexible, hybrid work arrangements upon approval for Research, Teaching, and Extension (RTE) faculty, the university status of academic librarians and archivists.

Appointment rank and salary range: The anticipated academic rank for this position is Assistant or Senior Assistant Librarian, with an anticipated salary range of $52,500-60,000.
