Melissa Memorial Hospital is looking for someone to join our team and manage Chemo & Wound Care operations. Must be willing to learn, be a team player, and have a passion for patient care.
 
Responsibilities:
Wound Care:
  • Assist and plan care for patients with wounds when consulted by a physician
  • Demonstrate competence and expertise in daily patient care, providing collaboration, direction, and instruction to staff in the application and use of current wound care products and resources.
  • Promote a team approach through collaboration with the physician, registered dietician, physical therapist, staff nurses, and family members
  • Serve as a patient advocate
  • Provide safe care according to legal, ethical, and institutional standards.
  • Serve as consultant to patient, family, staff.
  • Participate in setting standards and protocols for pressure ulcer prevention.
  • Assist physician with procedures and dressing changes
  • EMR documentation for appropriate wound care points and scribe for physician as needed.
  • Maintain up to date wound care knowledge through symposiums, professional journals, conferences, etc., and shares in this information with staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining customer friendly atmosphere
  • Promote fiscal responsibility in the use of wound care resources
  • Models and reinforces behavior consistent with goals for teaching the patient, communicates patient status to appropriate member of the healthcare team, and provides support to the family, as needed.
  • Monitors the prevalence and incidence of hospital-acquired pressure ulcers and takes steps to correct problem
  • Ensures adequate materials are available for patients with wounds
  • Assess patients upon initial consult and re-evaluates at least weekly
  • Assist nurses with complicated dressing changes and with dressing suggestion with or without consult
  • Responsible for maintaining Patient Safety goals.
 
Chemotherapy:
  • Healthcare personnel who have contact with the patient, their waste, associated equipment, etc., will have special training to be aware of the safety concerns of handling the drugs, waste products and the patient during their stay at MMH (Melissa Memorial Hospital).
  • The curricula for RN’s administering chemotherapy and biotherapy will include current and evidence–based content regarding:
  • Demonstrate proficiency regarding the safe preparation, storage, transport, handling, spill management, administration, and disposal of chemotherapy drugs and equipment.
  • Knowledge of chemotherapy drugs and the associated nursing implications
  • Knowledge of necessary technical skills required for the administration of chemotherapy agents
  • Identify appropriate physical and laboratory assessments for specific chemotherapy agents.
  • Demonstrate skill in venipuncture, including vein selection and sterile technique.
  • Demonstrate skill in care and use of various VADs
  • Identify patient and family education needs in relation to specific chemotherapy agents.
  • Identify acute local or systemic reactions as a result of extravasation or anaphylaxis in association with specific chemotherapy drugs, and appropriate interventions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the safe administration of chemotherapy and disposal of chemotherapy wastes and equipment.
  • Verbalize knowledge of institutional policies and procedures regarding chemotherapy administration.
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge of Hazardous compounding room monitoring and procedural duties to maintain proper environment within the Compounding suite
  • Document pertinent information in the medical record

Minimum Qualifications:
            Required Skills
Nurses will complete ONS Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification Course.
Nurses will complete high-risk medication test annually or as required.
The length of time spent in the supervised clinical practicum should be individualized depending on the nurse’s ability and skill in meeting the specific objectives and institutional standards.
Nurses will successfully complete the evaluation tool, ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Guidelines and Recommendations for Practice annually.
            Required Experience
RN License
Current BCLS certification.
ONS (Oncology Nurses Society) Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification preferred, this training will be provided if candidate has not obtained it before hiring.
2 Years direct patient care on Medical-Surgical Unit.
2 Years Chemotherapy experience.

1-2 years wound care experience.
Wound care nurse certification.
