Associate - Metallurgical Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • The Associate Program offers a full-time position with benefits to recent university graduates, providing an environment of growth and continued development of the Entry-level Engineer hire through area rotation, partnership, and mentoring for two years, before promoting into an Engineer II position.

  • Hire start dates: January 2020 or June 2020 only

  ACCOUNTABILITIES:  
Perform Process Engineering duties, which may include:
  • Investigate, design and implement practice/process changes in operations to improve the quality, delivery, efficiency, yield and throughput and to reduce manufacturing cost
  • Assess improvement potential, design, implement and track continuous improvement activities
  • Assess and implement new technologies
  • Develop concepts and solutions to improve World Class Manufacturing/Continuous Improvement
  • Support Cost Deployment, Autonomous Maintenance, and Focus Improvement projects
  • Guide customer qualifications, product approvals and product trials
  • Perform product and process optimization and continuous improvement
  • Inquiry review and clarification for manufacturing and service capability
  • Compare customer expectations and specification requirements to mill capabilities and efficiencies and communicate them to the mill
  • Review and analysis of customer complaints
  • Coordination of quality problem resolution with manufacturing plants
  • Contribute to procedures and policies along with IT solutions to support quality and customer related issues
  • Develop and monitor KPIs
  • Run simulations & trials, report on progress of projects
  • Prepares and presents reports and findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends

EDUCATION & ACCREDITATION:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Metallurgical Engineering; minimum GPA 2.5, completed by scheduled start date

BUSINESS DESCRIPTION:
AM/NS Calvert is a 50/50 joint venture between ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp. (NSSMC). The steel processing plant is located in Calvert, Alabama, about 35 miles north of Mobile. Purchased by ArcelorMittal and NSSMC in 2014, the plant has served the NAFTA market since 2010 with the capacity to produce 5.3 million tons of flat rolled carbon steel products annually.
AM/NS Calvert is recognized as one of the most advanced steel finishing facilities in the world and is highly complementary to ArcelorMittal USA’s existing portfolio of world-class assets. The facility includes a river terminal, hot strip mill, cold rolling mill, three hot dip galvanizing lines, rail yard and supporting infrastructure.

The facility serves the automotive, construction, pipe and tube, service center, and appliance/ HVAC industries with an impressive portfolio of steel grades for high-value applications including hot rolled bands, hot rolled pickled and oiled, cold rolled, and advanced coated products. AM/NS Calvert also helps ArcelorMittal to meet increasing OEM demand for advanced high strength steels that are needed to produce lighter-weight, more fuel efficient vehicles.

  • Days, Monday to Friday with extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
