Entry Level Engineer - Various Disciplines

Currently, our department in the FAA is looking for a few great entry level engineers throughout the United States.  We specifically need engineers with great communication skills who can handle the challenge of construction project management with a broad array of stakeholders.

Engineering Services implements changes to the safest and most efficient aviation system in the world. We are responsible for the design, construction, installation and integration efforts necessary to modernize and sustain over 600 airport traffic control towers and thousands of communication, navigation, surveillance and weather sites across the United States.

Some of the duties of our engineers include:

  • Prepare engineering design plans, specifications, cost estimates and supporting documents leading to the award of construction contracts
  • Provide Resident Engineering oversight of construction contracts.
  • Analyze, design, install, repair, fabricate, maintain, modify, or evaluate systems supporting the busiest and most complex air space system in the world.
  • Review plans and specifications prepared by consultants for conformance with Agency regulations, integration with existing facilities/systems, and design efficiency.



Typical Projects
-   Construction Management – Manage a variety of construction activities in the field.
-   Facility Modernization – Renovation of a variety of FAA Navigation, Radar, Communications, and Air Traffic Control facilities.
-   Elevator Modernization
-   HVAC – Chillers, boilers, hydronic systems, air side systems, building controls systems.
-   Roof Replacement
-   Engine Generator Replacement
 
Job Requirements
-   Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET accredited university.
-   This position is part Resident Engineer, Project Management, and Design Engineer.
-   The job is 25-95% travel.
-   Hands on work is required.
-   Interest in expanding knowledge from discipline-specific focus learned in school to a broader understanding of civil, structural, geotechnical, electrical, mechanical, and life safety.
-   Become familiar with NEC requirements as well as FAA Std 1217f and 19E.
-   Develop ability to resolve conflicts of interest between airport owners, local FAA personnel, other regional FAA organizations, and contractors while balancing scope, schedule, and cost.
-   Become familiar with how to read/follow drawings and specifications and capable of revising/redlining drawing packages following approved standard practices.
-   Able to network with co-workers to develop resources for advice and mentoring.
 
General Work Conditions
-   Employees have a variety of work schedules available to them
o Five, 8-hour days
o Nine-hour days with one day off every two weeks
o Four, 10-hour days
 
Software
-   CAD Software: The FAA uses Microstation as its CAD software.
-   Scheduling Software: Primavera is used for project scheduling though most engineers don’t directly use the program. They will use FAA-specific web based tool that access Primavera.
-   Be well versed in Microsoft Office software.
