Field Manager

The Landscape Workshop Field Manager is responsible for managing labor and material in the field to complete assigned services and product delivery. He/she must have good people skills to work with their team, other field managers, account managers and clients to see that the overall goals of the clients and the branch are met. These objectives require that the field manager must be able to communicate effectively, and must have strong organizational and time-management skills; the ability to follow directions; and good record-keeping skills to manage time and materials. 

In addition, field managers must develop the people that report to them. Success in this position is indicated by jobs in which contracts are renewed, jobs completed in the budgeted hours and low turnover of high-quality lead and crew personnel. This position must cooperate with other field managers and enhancement field managers.

Mechanical skills are necessary to make simple repairs. 

The Field Manager is also responsible for safely and efficiently producing quality landscape service meeting or exceeding the expectations of Landscape Workshop and our clients.

Minimum Requirements:
·        Demonstrated skill and ability managing others at other levels.
·        Demonstrated skill and ability working with service customers.
·        At least one year experience doing contract maintenance work in a commercial setting OR a
two-or four-year horticultural or related degree with relevant internship. Additional industry
experience or industry certifications can substitute for non-related degree, two-year degree
or no degree.
·        Ability to identify and diagnose insect and disease problems and schedule appropriate
treatment.
·        Working knowledge of vehicles and equipment used to provide our services and product
delivery.
·        Valid driver’s license with a clean record over the last three years.
·        Ability to pass required Department of Transportation physical
·        Good physical condition (see physical demands section below). Mental ability to read and
write English and make quick, thoughtful decisions.

Primary Responsibilities:
·        Develop a clear understanding of the values and customer value proposition by which the
company operates, the short-and long-term goals of the branch and the financial position of
the branch.
·        Get to know your people in an effort to help them develop within the company. Set goals with
them and monitor their progress through timely formal and informal evaluations.
·        Be an active part of our training process by attending or conducting certification training
sessions on a regular basis.
·        Plan, schedule and supervise daily production activities on assigned projects / activities.
·        Develop a clear understanding of the hourly and cost budgets for each of your jobs. Monitor
by reviewing job hours, reports and job costs regularly and taking action as needed.
Communicate budget hours to assistants and crew members.
·        Develop a good relationship with the client on every job.
·        Monitor quality of work and be proactive in bringing issues to the customer’s attention by
inspecting the job prior to the end of each service.
·        Maintain assigned vehicle and equipment in good working order and ensure the proper use
and operation of all safety related requirements for each.

Scope of Decision Making:
·        On own authority, makes all decisions regarding production of contract work on a day-to-day
basis, including customer service issues.
·        Assist account manager in decisions related to hiring and evaluating personnel for lead and
crew positions.
·        With account manager, decisions are made on all purchases and pay changes for lead and
crew personnel.

Vehicle and Equipment Management:
·        Verify vehicle and equipment and inventories on a daily basis.
·        Implement the preventative maintenance and cleanliness program of assigned equipment
and hold crew accountable for careless and unnecessary damages.
·        Train personnel in proper maintenance and care of vehicles and equipment.
·        Ensure proper chemical storage procedures are being followed.

Safety:
·        Ensure that the crew is operating in a safe manner at all times.
·        Ensure all members of the crew are trained and understand all safety related procedures for
operating vehicles and equipment.
·        Ensure that crew is present for safety meetings
·        Complete a minimum of one crew safety inspection per month for the crew in conjunction
with the account manager 

Physical Demands:
·        Safely perform heavy lifting/pushing/pulling of various landscaping equipment and materials,
including, but not limited to backpack blowers, large containers of mulch/plant material,
various sizes of lawnmowers, etc.
·        Safely operate hand and power equipment, including but not limited to manual and powered
sawing and cutting equipment
·        Leverage 80 lbs. of a walk behind mower over curbs
·        Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
·        Lift branches and limbs
·        Push, pull, grip and squeeze various tools, products and/or items (e.g., pruning)
·        Walk up to 10 miles a day, sometimes uphill and on uneven terrain, often while carrying,
pushing, or pulling equipment, materials, or debris.
·        Bend and kneel up to 8 hours or more a day
·        Spray various pesticides/herbicides
 
Work Environment:
·        Work hours vary
·        Work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation)
·        Noise level may be loud at times and use of ear protection is required and provided (e.g.,
outdoor conditions, backpack blowers, running mowers, trimmers)
  
All positions are outdoors, very physical and fast paced. We typically work 4-10’s, four 10 hour days/Monday-Thursday or 5-8’s, five eight hour days Monday-Friday. If we are rained out we will sometimes work on Friday or Saturday to catch up. Estimated start time is 6:30am till 4:30pm. End and start times vary depending on location, traffic, weather and job task.
