We are seeking students interested in  2027 internships positions (starting in Summer 2027) based in Huntsville, majoring in either Computer Science, Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering. We will be hosting a virtual interview day for these positions on September 15, 2026 for those selected to move forward.

As a Software Engineering Intern, you will:

  • Collaborate with engineers to design, develop, test, and integrate software for defense and space systems sectors.
  • Implement software features in languages such as C++, C, Python, Java, or C# under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Participate in requirements analysis, software design reviews, code reviews, and unit/integration testing.
  • Help maintain and improve existing codebases, including bug fixes and performance enhancements.
  • Work with tools and environments commonly used at Northrop Grumman, such as:
    • Version control (e.g., Git)
    • Issue tracking and CI/CD pipelines
    • Agile/Scrum project workflows
  • Document software designs, test procedures, and results in accordance with program and engineering standards.

Performance standards that a candidate should have to be successful in these positions include:

  • Leadership and teamwork capabilities
  • Interpersonal communication skills
  • Extracurricular activities (campus organizations, clubs, student organizations, community service) 
  • Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills

     

Prospect Qualifications: A prospect, regardless of age and hiring source must meet all of the below criteria:

  • Be a student who is enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university and have at least 1 semester remaining after the internship
  • Be majoring in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software or Computer Engineering
  • Be available to work in Huntsville AL for a minimum of 10 weeks during summer 2027
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite). Final approved U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special Access may be required to start

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Overall GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher
  • Prior internship or research experience in related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite
