Nanoxort LLC – Auburn, AL
Nanoxort LLC, a biomedical start-up located in Auburn, AL, is seeking a Research Scientist to join our team and support day-to-day lab operations. Nanoxort is on a mission to provide safer, improved diagnostic tools that enhance patient care. Specifically, we are developing nanoparticle-based MRI contrast agents to improve the diagnosis of a variety of diseases, including vascular, neurological, and cancer-related conditions.
This position is initially a 6-month appointment, with the possibility of extension depending on the availability of grant funding. We are open to part-time or full-time candidates, depending on fit.
Responsibilities
Performing experiments (50%)
- Operate lab apparatus and instruments, design and execute experiments, collect and tabulate data, and maintain accurate lab records
- Comply with all safety standards and procedures
Data analysis and presentation (20%)
- Process experimental data, perform calculations, prepare charts, graphs, and reports
- Conduct statistical analyses and summarize progress and plans weekly
Grant writing, literature review, and related activities (15%)
- Assist with grant proposals and research documentation
- Conduct literature reviews to support ongoing projects
Lab management and support (15%)
- Maintain lab equipment, chemicals, reagents, and supplies in excellent order
- Perform routine lab maintenance, cleaning, ordering, and organization
- Assist with administrative tasks, including inventory management
- Participate in weekly lab meetings and planning sessions
Experiments will primarily relate to ongoing Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) projects, as well as other initiatives identified by the Principal Investigator. Additional duties may be assigned by the Principal Investigator or Nanoxort leadership. The selected candidate will receive training directly from the Principal Investigator. Previous lab experience is required, preferably with in vitro studies.
Desired Knowledge and Skills
- Basic lab techniques including pipetting and solution preparation
- Knowledge of lab safety rules and protocols
- Experience with in vitro studies is strongly preferred
- Experience with nanoparticle synthesis and in vivo studies is a plus
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Self-motivated, intellectually independent, and strong data analysis skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to complete work efficiently within designated timeframes
Educational Background
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical/Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, or a related scientific field
Experience
- Laboratory experience in a related field is strongly recommended and may include coursework, undergraduate research, and/or professional laboratory experience
Job Type:

Physical Requirements
- Mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to 10 pounds
- Work may involve exposure to malodorous vapors, toxic chemicals, strong acids/bases, and potential carcinogens. Proper PPE will be provided
